HEInnovate strengthens synergies with European Universities alliances

HEInnovate is advancing its collaboration with European Universities alliances to support their strategic development in innovation and entrepreneurship. As multi-institutional partnerships play an increasingly prominent role in Europe’s higher education landscape, HEInnovate provides a structured framework to support collective reflection, peer learning, and coordinated action across diverse institutions.

In May 2025, HEInnovate hosted a dedicated workshop with representatives from twenty-three European Universities alliances. The session introduced the HEInnovate tool, featured a case example from the U!REKA alliance, and created space to explore how the platform could be adapted to alliance contexts. Discussions underlined the need for tailored planning resources, tools for alliance-level benchmarking, and formats that reflect shared governance and operational diversity.

To further support peer learning, a testimonial from Mona Roman, member of the HEInnovate Expert Group and coordinator of the U!REKA alliance, is now available. In this piece, she outlines how the alliance used HEInnovate to assess strengths and areas for improvement, define roles across partner institutions, and plan capacity-building activities.

Following the workshop, HEInnovate made a key update to the platform: all sixty-five European University alliances are now included in the list of entities that can complete a self-assessment. This means that alliances can assess themselves as a collective unit alongside or in addition to individual assessments by their member institutions. It reflects HEInnovate’s ongoing commitment to supporting institutional cooperation and shared innovation strategies across Europe.

Alliances interested in using the tool or requesting a dedicated workshop are invited to contact the team at info@heinnovate.eu.
