The research and innovation arm of the OECD, the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI), has launched a new project to support higher education institutions to enhance the quality of their teaching to foster students’ creative and critical thinking.
The Fostering and assessing students’ creative and critical thinking skills in higher education project will build an international community of practice around teaching, learning and assessing creativity and critical thinking in HEIs.
The research will look into how institutions currently foster and assess these skills as part of their teaching; how they could improve their practices; and how the higher education sector can use these practices to enhance the quality of its teaching internationally.
Participants will be selected in 2018, followed by two rounds of pedagogical intervention and data collection in the academic years 2018-19 and 2019-20. The findings of the project will then be published in an international report in 2021.
The project aims to trigger a sustainable improvement process in teaching and learning in higher education and beyond.
The deadline for applications is 31 August 2018 and Expressions of Interest should be sent to Stéphan Vincent-Lancrin at stephan.vincent-lancrin@oecd.org.
CERI will also run a similar project to support teacher education institutions and programmes to enhance the quality of their instruction to foster future teachers’ creative and critical thinking skills.
